Tim Mcgraw Artist Information

Tim McGraw was born Samuel Timothy "Tim" McGraw on May 1, 1967 in Delhi, Louisiana. McGraw is 25% Irish and 25% Italian from his mother's side, and Sots-Irish on his father's. At an early age, Tim loved competitive sports and studied baseball and sports medicine at Northeast Louisiana University. While in a fraternity there, he sang in the band known as the Electones, during which he learned to play guitar. He eventually dropped out of college to move to Nashville and pursue his musical career. After meeting Curb Records in 1990, he began recording new music and released his self-titled first album in 1992, which featured a minor hit "Welcome to the Club".

McGraw's second album, Not a Moment Too Soon, was more successful than the first and was the best-selling country album in 1994. It ended up selling more than five million copies, and winning him Academy of Country Music awards for Album of the Year and Top New Male Vocalist in 1994. All I Want, released in 1995, debuted at number one on the country charts and furthered his popularity and success. In 1996, he was headlined the most successful country tour of the year, which featured Faith Hill as his supporting act (the two ended up getting married). His next few albums would continue to prove his popularity and often debuted at number one on the charts.

In 2000, McGraw released his Greatest Hits album, which ended up selling nearly 6 million copies and topped the charts for nine weeks. His next album, Set This Circus Down, released in April 2001, turned out four number one country hits: "Grown Men Don't Cry", "Angry All the Time", "The Cowboy in Me", and "Unbroken". McGraw gained phenomenal success with the release of Live Like You Were Dying in 2004, featuring the song of the title track (which was dedicated to his father who died of brain cancer).

In April 2006, McGraw and Hill began a 73-concert tour in 55 cities which grossed almost $89 million to a strong commercial success. They donated the profit from their performance in New Orleans to Hurricane Katrina relief. Aside from his music career, McGraw has been seen on the acting side of life. His first role was in a 1995 episode of The Jeff Foxworthy Show and in 2004, he played a sheriff in Rick Schroder's independent release Black Cloud. He also had an appearance as an angry father in the film Friday Night Lights and a lead role in 2006s Flicka.
