Gary and Joe are two second cousins who initially began playing together in Columbus, Ohio over a decade ago during frequent family jam sessions. Jay went to Nashville in 1992 and earned a record deal as part of a Christian group called East to West and convinced Gary to pursue his musical career as well. They met Joe Don while working in Chely Wright's band and soon recorded some demos that caught the attention of Lyric Street Senior VP of A&R Doug Howard.

Rascal Flatts gained huge momentum in popularity with their first album out and opened for various groups such as Alan Jackson, Jo Dee Messina and Toby Keith. Their debut album spawned four top-ten singles and moved quickly to Platinum status. The success of their music has led them to continue their intense work ethic while maintaining strong personal lives. Gary is married with two daughters (Brittany-6, and Brooklyn-2), Jay is married to a former Miss Tennessee, and Joe Don recently married Tiffany Falon.
