Born John Michael Osbourne on December 3, 1948, Ozzy Osbourne is best known for being lead vocalist of the heavy metal band Black Sabbath and star of the reality show, The Osbournes. At a young age, he was reported to suffer from learning disabilities, which made school life difficult and ultimately leading him into a comfortable life of music. He auditioned for lead singer of a local band called Earth and soon joined the group, making the four complete. The name Earth was learned to be in use by another band, so the group renamed themselves Black Sabbath, based on a film called ‘Black Sabbath' by Mario Bava and Osbourne's lyrics to their first song of the same name. The band would go on to become considered definitive heavy metal, and Osbourne himself continues to perform its songs as a solo artist.

In 1979, after being fired from Black Sabbath for drug abuse, he joined the band Necromandus after a period of recluse and depression. They soon became The Ozzy Osbourne Band (which began as The Blizzard of Ozz) and immediately released their first album, The Blizzard of Ozz. They would continue to release popular heavy metal albums that would please fans, in spite of losing a band member to a plane crash, and Osbourne himself would continue into the 80's and 90's making music and working on sobriety. He consistently gained commercial success with his work, though often the case of controversy and even litigation in some instances due to certain impressionable lyrics. One of his most successful ventures of the 90's was Ozzfest, managed by his wife Sharon and assisted by his son Jack. During that tour, Osbourne reunited with the original members of Black Sabbath and performs periodically with them to date.

Although he announced that he would be retiring as headliner for Ozzfest, he continued to reappear on stage for the acts and even announced he will return for yet another year in 2007. He was inducted into the UK Music Hall of Fame in 2005 along with Black Sabbath (where he decided to moon the crowd due to poor reception). The new Ozzy album, titled Black Rain, was released on May 22, 2007, which include the songs "Countdown's Begun", "Not Going Away", and "Lay Your World On Me".
