Maroon 5 Band Information

Maroon 5 began as Kara's Flowers with members Adam Levine, Jesse Carmichael, Mickey Madden and Ryan Dusick as an upcoming garage band. While its members were still in high school, the band signed with Reprise Records and released The Fourth World in mid-1997. The album did not land successfully and ultimately failed to take off commercially, leading the band to part with Reprise Records ultimately. The four members attended colleges across the country and deepened their musical styles, developing a sound with roots such as Motown, pop, R&B, soul, and gospel. The came together once again and started playing in 2001. They inducted James Valentine to play guitar (formerly with the band Square). At that time, the band adopted their current name Maroon 5.

Maroon 5 began playing showcase gigs in New York and Los Angeles and signed with Octone Records and also a global music publishing deal with BMG Music Publishing. The band recorded Songs About Jane at Rumbo Recorders in Los Angeles. They worked with producer Matt Wallace (who had also worked with Train, Blues Traveller, Kyle Riabko, and Third Eye Blind). The album title reflects Levine's personal relationship with his ex-girlfriend Jane with various songs influenced directly by it. "Harder to Breathe" was the first single which brought initial interest in the charts and the album peaked at #6 on the Billboard 200 in August 2004, over two years after its release.

The band has toured constantly since the release of their album in 2002. They have toured with Michelle Branch, Nikka Costa, Vanessa Carlton, Graham Colton, John Mayer, and even The Rolling Stones. Other notable tour partnerships include Gavin DeGraw, Matchbox Twenty and Sugar Ray. With unfortunate physical problems with his arms and touring stresses, Dusick officially left the band in September of 2006 to be permanently replaced by Matt Flynn (former drummer of Gavin DeGraw). Maroon 5 released their second album, It Won't Be Soon Before Long on May 22, 2007 with single "Makes Me Wonder". The It Won't Be Soon Before Long tour is scheduled to begin September 29, 2007 in Detroit.
