Linkin Park Band Information

The band Linkin Park first called themselves Xero and was founded by Mike Shinoda, Brad Delson and Rob Bourdon. Soon, after taking more serious efforts to further their career, they recruited more members with Joh Hahn, Dave "Phoenix" Farrell and Mark Wakefield. The band used Shinoda's makeshift bedroom studio to start recording in 1996, but intial attempts to land a record deal failed. The band lost Wakefield in the slow start and after changing the band's name from Xero to Hybrid Theory, they recruited Chester Bennington as vocalist.

With newly recruited Bennington, the band had new energy and changed their name to Linkin Park, a play on and homage to Santa Monica's Lincoln Park. Attempts to secure a record deal continued to prove elusive as the band struggled on. Jeff Blue finally gave the band a break with a record deal in 1999 and Linkin Park released Hybrid Theory on October 24, 2000, which sold more than 4.8 million records during its debut year. Singles such as "Crawling" and "One Step Closer" were becoming established songs in the alternative rock playlists.

With the success of their debut album after years of struggling, Linkin Park was launched into successful concerts and recognition. The band formed their own tour, Projekt Revolution and featured artists such as Cypress Hill, Adema and Snoop Dogg. Their album Reanimation, which included workds from Hybrid Theory, sold nearly 270.000 copies during its debut week and claimed the second spot on the Billboard 200. After spending a good amount of time touring the country afterwards, the band finally released Meteora, which ended up selling more than 800,000 copies in the first week alone and featured the singles "Somewhere I Belong", "Breaking the Habit", "Faint", and "Numb".

Linkin Park spent the next several years touring and doing charity work across the country. It wasn't until 2006 when they began working on new material and released Minutes to Midnight on May 15, 2007, selling over 600,000 copies the first week and capturing the top spot on the Billboard Charts.
