Born in Knoxville and raised in Lutrell, Kenny Chesney's roots are planted deep in the heart of Tennessee. Though graduating from East Tennessee State University with a degree in advertising in 1990, his main drive was music and he kicked off his music career by playing small gigs around local hotspots in Johnson City. In 1991 he recorded an album at Classic Recording Studio in Bristol, Virginia. He took this first album with only a thousand copies, selling them at his gigs with a goal to earn enough to buy a Martin guitar. It wasn't long before he headed to Nashville to make a name for himself with music producers and in 1992, landed his first contract with BMI and Opryland Music Group.

In My Wildest Dreams was Kenny's first album in 1994, but with low sales at only about 10,000 copies and even lower spots on the charts, its lack of success led to the folding of the recording label. He quickly landed his first hit, "Fall in Love" the next year, reaching the Country Top 10, leading him into other top spots with later songs. Kenny landed the No. 1 spot on the Billboard with "She's Got It All" in August 1997, lasting three weeks there. Over the next seven years, he had No. 1's with "How Forever Feels", "The Good Stuff", "There Goes My Life", and "When the Sun Goes Down".

Kenny Chesney has won the Country Music Association's Entertainer of the Year honor in 2004, 2006 and just recently in 2007. Other notable awards include ACM New Male Vocalist of the Year (1997), ACM Top Male Vocalist of the Year (2002), CMA Album of the Year: When The Sun Goes Down (2004), ACM Triple Crown Winner (2005), and People's Choice Male Vocalist of the Year (2007).

Chesney owns a 56' Sea Ray yacht and also has a home in the U.S. Virgin Islands. He enjoys spending time down in the Caribbean and even includes island themed songs in some of his work, including his 2005 album Be As You Are. In May 2005 he and actress Renee Zellweger got married in the Caribbean and in September of the same year, Zellweger filed for an annulment with a citation of "fraud". In an interview by 60 Minutes with Anderson Cooper, Chesney commented on the failed marriage: "The only fraud that was committed was me thinking that I knew what it was like…that I really understood what it was like to be married, and I really didn't".
