His maternal grandfather who gave him his first guitar when he was only 8 years old (also teaching him how to play) initially influenced Brad Paisley into his love for country music. He wrote his first song at age 12 and no less than a year later was used as opening acts for artists like Ricky Scaggs and George Jones at the Capital Music Hall in Wheeling, WV. He graduated from John Marshall High School in Glen Dale, WV, studied at West Liberty State College and was awarded a full ASCAP scholarship in 1993 to Belmont University in Nashville.

Following his graduation from Belmont, he signed a songwriting contract with EMI Music Publishing and quickly wrote the hit "Another You" performed by David Kersh. Paisley debuted his singing career with the song "Who Needs Pictures" in 1999 and also made his first appearance at the Grand Old Opry the same year. Quickly following in the same year was his first #1 hit "He Didn't Have To Be". In 2000, he appeared on the TLC special "Route 66: Main Street America" featuring Brad and his band doing live acoustical versions of Route 66.

In late 2000, he won the CMA's Horizon Award and the Academy of Country Music's best new male vocalist trophy and in 2001 received his first Grammy nomination. Brad Paisley was inducted into the Opry Hall of Fame on February 17, 2001 after appearing on the show forty times. He won the CMA Music Video of the Year with "I'm Gonna Miss Her (The Fishin' Song)" in 2002. He released his third album in 2003, Mud on the Tires and the title track reached Billboard #1 in 2004.

On November 6, 2006, his album "Time Well Wasted" won the CMA Award for Best Album. His unique sound comes from his use of custom made Crook Telecaster guitars and Dr. Z amplifiers. He wrote two original songs for the Disney film Cars, which was in recognition of his work on the Route 66 television special. He married actress Kimberly Williams on March 15, 2003, owns a Lear Jet and over 100 acres in Williamson County in Tennessee.
