Bon Jovi Artist Information
Jon Bon Jovi founded his first band at the age of thirteen, which he named Raze. At sixteen, after meeting David Bryan, he founded a 12-piece cover band named Atlantic City Expressway, where the band played at local New Jersey clubs. From there he played in the band John Bongiovi and the Wild Ones, in clubs such as "The Fast Lane" and opening for known local acts. After high school, Bon Jovi took a job working with his cousin at Power Station Studios, a recording company in Manhattan, where he made demos to send to recording labels across the country (failing to make an impact). It wouldn't be until the next year after he recorded the track "Runaway", when he would begin getting radio airplay and initial exposure.
At this point, Bon Jovi's career bagan to come together as the recording companies who had previously passed on this talent scrambled to regain his attention. In March, 1983, he reconnected with David Bryan and added bassist Alec John Such, drummer Tico Torres, and his neighbor guitarist Dave Sabo ("The Snake", who would go on to form the band Skid Row). Soon afterwards, Richie Sambora impressed Bon Jovi and was inducted as the band's new lead guitarist. Thus, the band that would stay the same for the next decade was born: Jon Bon Jovi, Richie Sambora, David Bryan, Tico Torres and Alec John Such. After playing together for a time, Derek Shulman signed the band to Mercury Records and suggested the band go by the name "Bon Jovi" (which wasn't initially well-received, but stuck nonetheless).
Bon Jovi was released on January 21, 1984, going Gold in the US with sales of over 500,000 albums. They were setting their name deep into the popular cliques and even opened for bands like ZZ Top, Scorpions and Kiss. However, the release of the band's second album would prove to be a disappointment with critics and fans. With the release of their third album, Slippery When Wet, Bon Jovi bounced back to super-stardom with hit songs like "You Give Love a Bad Name", "Livin' On A Prayer", and "Wanted Dead or Alive". 1988's New Jersey would go on to become a fan favorite. The early nineties saw the band do bits of solo work and eventually come back together to produce such albums like Keep the Faith, a greatest hits album Cross Road, and These Days (which went platinum). Bon Jovi, after working on further solo works (Jon himself appearing in many television shows and films), reunited in 1999 and released their new album Crush, which featured the hit single "It's My Life". The band worked together and released new work in the new millennium (without the help of former member Alec John Such) and their tenth studio album Lost Highway, released June 2007, debuted at #1 on the Billboard charts.
