Alicia Keys was born on January 25, 1980 in the Harlem neighborhood of Manhattan. Not long after, Alicia Keys began writing, producing and playing the piano in an accord that made critics keep the praise coming. She released her next album, The Diary of Alicia Keys on December 2, 2003, which was immediately hailed by critics, debuting at number one in the U.S. "You Don't Know My Name" and "If I Ain't Got You", both reached the top five of Billboard's Top 100 chart. In 2005, she performed and taped an installment of MTV Unplugged at the Brooklyn Academy of Music, a live session where she added new arrangements to original songs and performed a few choice covers. In more recent days, since late 2006 she began working on her third studio album, As I Am, which was released on November 13, 2007. It immediately debuted on the Billboard 200 at number one with record first-week sales.

Beginning in the early 2000s, Keys made small cameos in televisions shows such as Charmed, American Dreams, did the voice of Mommy Martian in an episode of The Backyardigans, Cane (guest starring as herself), and also made a big-screen debut in the crime film Smokin' Aces. Her second film experience was playing a character named Lynette in the 2007 movie, The Nanny Diaries. She played alongside Scarlett Johansson and Chris Evans. Alicia Keys is also very active in social work and charities.
