Aerosmith Band Information
Aerosmith's roots date back to the late 1960s in Sunapee, New Hampshire when drummer/vocalist Steven Tyler met Joe Perry and Tom Hamilton while on vacation. With a quick decision to play together, they added members Joey Kramer and Brad Whitford (who replaced Ray Tobano) and thus the band was born. In 1972, Aerosmith signed with Columbia Records and released Aerosmith in '73. Several songs from this first album and other 1970s releases would become staples of the bands future concert performances; such songs as "Dream On", "Mama Kin" and "Walkin' the Dog". Their initial album went on to sell two million copies while the band toured the country and worked on their second album Get Your Wings (which sold three million copies). The late 70s delivered popular hits "Sweet Emotion" and "Walk This Way" from the album Toys in the Attic, which proved the band worthy in the rock industry.
Following a decrease in popularity at the end of the 1970s and commonly known drug abuse (Steven Tyler and Joe Perry were often referred to as "The Toxic Twins"), and losing both Perry and Whitford temporarily, Aerosmith embarked on a reunion tour entitled "Back in the Saddle" in 1984. The 80s were a struggle to regain the group's popularity and ranks in the charts as they released albums such as Done With Mirrors and Permanent Vacation. And with the release of Pump in 1989 (and the band's successful march through drug rehabilitation), hits like "Janie's Got a Gun", "What it Takes", and "Love in an Elevator" brought Top Ten singles. That album sold seven million copies and earning the band their first ever Grammy win with "Janie's Got a Gun" (Best Rock Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocal). Get a Grip was their first album to debut at #1 and gained seven million sales within two years. The 90s saw Aerosmith as a huge force in the entertainment industry, with various movie and television appearances and number one hit songs.
Later releases include Just Push Play, Honkin' on Bobo, and Rockin' the Joint. With the public announcement that Steve Tyler and Tom Hamilton were both being treated for throat cancer, the band had to take some time to recover, but still planned near-future touring, like The Route of All Evil Tour in September of 2006. In addition to touring, the band is working on their next album to be released in the spring of 2008, which will be their 15th studio recording (according to an interview with MTV Argentina). The album features a cover of Deep Purple's "Highway Star".
